Blasting out of Brazzaville
I spoke to Steve after he landed at Brazzaville (at 1354Z). He was already in the hotel and about to put his head down for 40 minutes. I gleaned no details of his flight from Cape Town as I didn’t want to delay his zzzzzzz
He took off again from Brazzaville at 1621Z and is now on his way to his last re-fuelling stop at Tamanrasset where Sam Rutherford has been waiting for him. His ETA is 0242Z.
Steve wants to take off from Tamanrasset in daylight. This means earliest about 30 minutes before sunrise so Aerodynamics have filed his flight plan accordingly. His actual time of take-off will depend on whether tiredness or adrenalin win the battle and we must await Steve’s decision. If he sticks to his planned 2 hours on the ground he will be airborne again at 0442Z and, God willing, in to Southend at 1507Z.

Go Steve go. Just to let you know, cousin Carl is due to be in Kano tomorrow and he’d rather not experience one of those freak ‘golden showers’ for which the area has become so famous.
Go safe,
Mark.

I don’t who it is who is posting the regular updates, but they are compulsory viewing for me. Whoever you are a big thank you and don’t let the Swine fever or flu get you down. The recovery time is quite brief.

We’re ready and waiting here in Tamanrasset – Green light, Go Go Go…

Just seen that he’s down to 149kts, quite a headwind he’s collected there (hopefully it’ll turn into a tailwind as he crosses the ITCZ).

Looks like Steve is very shortly going to pass from Nigeria into Niger. Some weather on the ITCZ to his west that has probably had his attention, too. After that Algeria and Tamanrasset!
He is really doing something special here! Here’s hoping he can find the energy to push through the fatigue.
